Females who are pilots in India are rewriting the meaning of flying high from commercial jets flying at 35,000 feet to fighter planes going with the speed of sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to the number of women in aviation, India is the world&#8217;s leading country. The global share of women pilots is <strong>approximately 5%<\/strong>, but in India, this <strong>figure<\/strong> <strong>around 15%<\/strong> \u2014 among the highest. This is not just an indicator but rather a reflection of the extent Indian women have come in realizing their aspirations..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-from-grounded-dreams-to-soaring-reality\"><strong>From Grounded Dreams to Soaring Reality<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Women&#8217;s journey in aviation started long before the introduction of modern aircraft or sophisticated training institutes. The road was paved with courage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the year 1936, <strong>Sarla Thukral<\/strong> was the first Indian woman to fly a plane \u2014 she was only 21. Two decades hence, <strong>Durba Banerjee<\/strong> became the first woman pilot. These pioneer aviators were able to comply with the social standards of their time and demonstrated that women were just as capable as men in the cockpit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scenario has changed a lot from back then \u2014 now, many young girls each year enroll at the best flying schools like the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA), CAE Oxford Aviation Academy, and Flytech Aviation Academy. What is their ambition? To get the coveted gold stripes and take charge of an aircraft of their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-where-we-stand-today\"><strong>Where We Stand Today<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Indian aviation industry, women have made their presence felt like never before. Data from the <strong>Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)<\/strong> reveals that there are&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatimes.com\/news\/india\/pilots-india-women-highest-percentage-world-556083.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com\"><strong>around 2,764 women pilots out of 17,726 registered pilots (2021 data).<\/strong><\/a>who are flying on domestic as well as international routes. The major airline companies such as Air India, IndiGo, Vistara, and SpiceJet are leading the change in this area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>female captain ratio at Air India<\/strong> is frequently among the highest in the world and sometimes even the highest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>IndiGo<\/strong> has over 400 women pilots which is a commendably extraordinary thing for an airline anywhere in the world.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Vistara<\/strong> and <strong>AirAsia<\/strong> India still are putting in lots of effort in mentoring and creating the right atmosphere for the women to work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The women in the defense sector are also venturing into previously held male domains. The UN later recognized her for promoting gender equality in aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Captain Ritu Rathee Taneja<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>A commercial pilot and content creator, she uses her platform to inspire young aviators and normalize women\u2019s presence in cockpits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Avani Chaturvedi<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>India\u2019s first female fighter pilot to fly solo in a MiG-21 Bison \u2014 Avani\u2019s achievement showed that courage, not gender, defines a pilot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each of these women turned the sky into their canvas and painted it with ambition, hard work, and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-future-looks-limitless\"><strong>The Future Looks Limitless<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>India&#8217;s aviation industry is on a fast track to growth. By 2035 the country will require around <strong>10,000 to 12,000 new pilots <\/strong>and it will be mainly women who will help fulfill that demand. The airlines are spending on such things as leadership development, flexible rosters, and mentorship programs for female pilots.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The discussion is changing from \u201cfemale pilots\u201d to only \u201cpilots.\u201d That is what real equality is about, where gender does not matter in determining skills.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More institutions and virtual communities are there as well who are motivating and influencing the young girls to go for aviation careers very early thus turning inspiration to action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-for-every-girl-who-dreams-of-flying\"><strong>For Every Girl Who Dreams of Flying<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have ever seen an airplane and thought \u201cOne day, it will be me\u201d, then here is your guide:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Get the basics right in STEM<\/strong> \u2013 Physics and Maths are the must for CPL training.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Select the DGCA-approved flying school <\/strong>\u2013 Be cautious and do a thorough investigation about the school before getting enrolled.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Be healthy all the time <\/strong>\u2013 Get your Class 2 and Class 1 medicals done as early as possible.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Be smart about your networking<\/strong> \u2013 Meet up pilots and aviation professionals on social media and get their help and guidance.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Never stop believing<\/strong> \u2013 There might be storms, but the tenacity of a person will always get him\/her to the cruising height.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-conclusion-the-sky-has-no-ceiling\"><strong>Conclusion: The Sky Has No Ceiling<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The increase in the <strong>number of Indian women pilots<\/strong> is not only an aeronautic tale but also one based on factors such as bravery, fairness, and dream coming true.
