India’s aviation story got a fresh new chapter as Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Union Minister of Civil Aviation, officially launched the book Above and Beyond – Exploring the Amazing World of Aviation in New Delhi. Written by Shri Shiv Kumar Mohanka, a senior officer of the CISF, this book is based on years of experience in the aviation industry, his involvement spanning over 30 years.

The uniqueness of this book lies in one of its simple, yet powerful approaches. Rather than describing runways, grounds, or aircraft, it narrates the story of what truly happens behind every flight, how the airports are run, how these systems coordinate with each other, and how the whole passenger experience is modeled from check-in to touchdown.
A highlight of the book is its survey of 1,500 passengers, which mapped out 262 common challenges faced by travelers in India. These real insights give a clear picture of how airports can improve passenger experience while also showcasing the scale of operations that happen quietly in the background.
At the launch event, the Civil Aviation Minister praised the book as “an encyclopedia of India’s aviation sector.” He emphasized how such initiatives make technical industries more accessible to the public and inspire future aviators, policymakers, and frequent travelers alike.
For Mohanka, the principle was simple: to demystify flying. Aviation is not just about planes or terminals; it’s about people, teamwork, precision, and endless progress.
India’s aviation industry is, of course, growing at a fast pace, and Above and Beyond offers a rare insider’s perspective for everyone who truly wishes to know what keeps this industry soaring high. For those who merely want to admire or understand the industry, be it travel lovers, students of the industry, or for that matter, real aviation professionals, this book serves as a window into the modern air travel world.
